What fees are involved in the application process?
There is a $45 application fee per applicant, along with a holding fee if necessary to reserve your apartment home. Please contact our team with any questions regarding our application policies and requirements!
Is renter’s insurance required?
Yes, renter's insurance is required for all residents of Melrose Canyon.
When is rent due? What payment methods do you accept?
Rent is due on the 1st of each month and is considered late after the 3rd. Residents can make payment online through the resident portal.
What is the policy for breaking a lease early?
Residents who need to end their lease early are required to provide a 30-day written notice. An early termination fee equal to one month's rent will also apply.
Are utilities included in the monthly rent?
Residents are responsible for water, sewer, trash, gas, and pest control services. Electricity is set up diectly though San Diego Gas & Electric, and utility charges are billed based on apartment size and occupancy.
What types of floor plans are available at Melrose Canyon?
We offer a variety of studio, one, two, and three-bedroom apartment homes.
Are there in-unit washers and dryers?
Yes, every apartment at Melrose Canyon comes equipped with an in-unit washer and dryer.
Will my apartment have a dishwasher?
Yes, each apartment at Melrose Canyon includes a dishwasher.
What is it like living in Hillcrest, San Diego?
Living in Hillcrest offers one of the closest experiences San Diego has to true urban neighborhood living. The area is energetic, walkable, and incredibly community-oriented. Many residents love that they can leave their car parked for days at a time and simply enjoy the neighborhood on foot. Hillcrest is one of San Diego’s most personality-filled neighborhoods, loved for its strong sense of community that’s hard to find elsewhere in the city.
What are the best hiking trails located near Melrose Canyon?
Melrose Canyon is perfectly situated for anyone who loves to get outdoors and explore San Diego’s scenic hiking trails! Located near North Park, our community is just 5–10 minutes from the popular Seven Bridges Walk through Hillcrest and Balboa Park. We’re also a short drive from local favorites such as Mission Trails Regional Park, home to Cowles Mountain, and the Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve.
Are there any universities nearby?
Melrose Canyon is less than ten minutes from the University of San Diego and is 15 minutes from San Diego State University!
What is the advantage of Melrose Canyon’s location?
For many residents, the location strikes the perfect balance: close enough to walk almost everywhere, while still feeling slightly removed from the busiest parts of the city. We’re within walking distance of grocery stores such as Trader Joes, Sprouts Farmers Market, Whole Foods Market, and Ralph’s. What schools are Melrose Canyon zoned for?
Melrose Canyon falls within the San Diego Unified School District attendance area. The generally assigned neighborhood public schools for that address are: Florence Elementary School, Roosevelt International Middle School, and San Diego High School.
How far away is the airport?
Melrose Canyon is about 2.6 miles away from the San Diego International Airport. Usually it takes around a 6–10 minute drive without heavy traffic
Is Melrose Canyon pet-friendly?
Yes, Melrose Canyon is pet-friendly! We allow up to two pets per household.
Is Melrose Canyon located nearby any dog parks or beaches?
Our community is only a few minutes from several of San Diego’s best dog parks, including Nate's Point Dog Park, a large off-leash area inside Balboa Park that’s very popular with Hillcrest residents for daily walks and socializing. For beaches, we’re within about 15–20 minutes of both Ocean Beach Dog Beach and Coronado Dog Beach, two off-leash dog beaches where dogs can run directly on the sand and in the water.
What kind of parking do you offer at Melrose Canyon?
We offer a variety of parking options for our residents, including a covered carport, covered tandem parking, and uncovered parking spaces.
Is parking included in my rent?
Parking is available for an additional monthly cost and is not included in the base rent.
What’s parking like in Hillcrest?
Because Hillcrest is so walkable and close to many of San Diego's major attractions and employment hubs, parking can sometimes be challenging, especially for buildings without dedicated resident parking. That's why we have onsite parking at Melrose Canyon, so our resident's day-today living is significantly easier and more convenient.
What is Melrose Canyon's Walk Score?
Melrose Canyon's Walk Score is approximately 93–96, which is considered a “Walker’s Paradise.” That means most daily errands can easily be done on foot!
Do you offer emergency maintenance?
Yes, we provide 24-hour emergency maintenance services for urgent issues that occur outside of standard business hours.
How do I submit a maintenance request?
Requests can be submitted easily through the Resident Portal.
